Can Physiotherapy help you?
Birth Preparation
Pregnancy physio is essential for preparing for labour. We assess pelvic floor relaxation and coordination to help you during the pushing stage, reducing the risk of interventions like episiotomy or perineal tears. We also guide you on perineal massage to improve tissue elasticity.
Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP)
PGP is common during pregnancy, causing discomfort in the lower back, hips, and pelvic region. Pregnancy physio helps alleviate this pain with exercises and manual therapy, reducing stress on the pelvic joints and improving mobility.
Vulval Varicosities
Physiotherapy can assist with vulval varicosities, helping to manage discomfort through positioning, pelvic floor exercises, and compression garments.
Exercise Modifications
Pregnancy physio tailors exercise programmes to ensure you stay active without straining your pelvic floor or abdominal muscles.
Abdominal Separation (Diastasis Recti)
Physiotherapy can help manage diastasis recti with safe exercises to strengthen your core and support your changing body.
Rib, Back, Neck, and Hip Pain
Pregnancy physio relieves discomfort from rib pain and back, neck, or hip pain caused by posture changes with exercises, stretching, and manual therapy.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Swelling can cause carpal tunnel syndrome during pregnancy. Pregnancy physio offers exercises and strategies to improve circulation and reduce symptoms.

No, in Australia, physiotherapists, including pregnancy physios, are first-contact practitioners, so you don’t need a referral. However, if your doctor or specialist has given you one, feel free to bring it along to your appointment. It can provide helpful information about your pregnancy journey for your physiotherapist.

Our women’s health physios are trained in internal assessments and treatments, but this will only be done with your consent. During your session, your therapist will discuss if an internal assessment is recommended for your specific condition. Alternatively, we also use real-time ultrasound to assess pelvic floor function externally.
