Medicare Rebates
Can I Get Medicare Rebates for Physiotherapy?
Yes! You may be eligible for Medicare rebates on Physiotherapy through the Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan, previously known as an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Plan. This allows your GP to refer you for up to five Medicare subsidised physiotherapy sessions per calendar year.
How Does It Work?
Visit Your GP - Ask your doctor if you qualify for a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan.
To be eligible you must have had or are likely to have your ‘condition’ for 6 months. Examples of conditions that are eligible:
Pelvic floor dysfunction – Weakness, pain, or incontinence.
Back or neck pain – Persistent pain from pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding posture.
Urinary incontinence – Ongoing leakage issues after childbirth.
Faecal incontinence – Loss of bowel control post-birth.
Postnatal prolapse symptoms – Ongoing management of pelvic organ prolapse.
C-section or perineal scar management – If pain or restricted movement persists.
Chronic perineal pain – Long-term discomfort following birth trauma.
Breastfeeding-related musculoskeletal pain – Ongoing neck, shoulder, or wrist pain.
You must also have at least 3 health professionals involved in your care, this can include:
GP General Practitioner
Obstetrician
Midwife
Aboriginal health worker or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioner
Audiologist
Chiropractor
Diabetes educator
Dietitian
Exercise physiologist
Mental health worker
Occupational therapist
Osteopath
Physiotherapist
Podiatrist
Psychologist
Speech pathologist
Receive Your Referral - Your GP will provide a referral for up to five sessions per year.
Book Your Appointment - Call or book online with Sunny Natal and provide your CDM referral details.
Claim Your Rebate - After your session, we will claim your Medicare rebate on the spot ($60 per session in 2024).
What About the Medicare Safety Net?
If you’ve reached the Medicare Safety Net threshold (this is likely if you have just had a baby), you may be eligible for a higher rebate per session, reducing your out of pocket costs even further.
How to Ask Your GP for a CDM Plan?
Some doctors may not always suggest a CDM Plan, so it’s okay to ask. If you’d like to bring some information to your GP, download our helpful PDF below, which explains the process and eligibility for Medicare-subsidised physiotherapy at Sunny Natal.
